Ben Dixon, host of the Ben Dixon Show, founder of Progressive Army and contributor to the Majority Report w/Sam Seder sits down with Mary Angela Perna and David Slavick on the Lush Left Podcast to talk about how best to use progressive energy in 2018.

We’ve seen some factionalizing of the left both in ideology and in approach to politics. 2018 may be our last shot at capitalizing on the energy stoked in 2016 and if we don’t start winning now we might never win. We talk about Assad Apologists, the defeatist faction of the left, Jimmy Dore and more. It’s time to get smart and get moving!

Laura Belin of Bleeding Heartland on Iowa’s Iowa’s Six-Week Abortion Ban

Laura Belin of Bleeding Heartland talks to hosts Mary Angela Perna and David Slavick about the drastic six-week abortion law just pushed through the Iowa legislature which would put limits on nearly all legal abortions in the state. The law has been challenged by Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, ACLU of Iowa and the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City. The state attorney general has stepped away from the case suggesting that the Executive Council authorize the Thomas More Society to defend the law. That conservative group has offered its legal services at no cost to the state.

Jenny Marshall, The Progressive Dem Who Is Going To Turn NC Blue Again!

Jenny Marshall is running in North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District with a message and a work ethic that could flip that seat back to blue and keep it that way. Listen here to our interview with Jenny Marshall on SoundCloud.

North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District Map

Jenny’s been endorsed by Marianne Williamson‘s Sister Giant, Howie Klein’s Blue America, Justice Democrats and more. She is working harder than nearly any candidate in the country, hitting doors and taking the message of Medicare for All to the people. She’s got a knack for organizing that is incredibly rare and it shows in her brilliantly organized campaign.

Here’s what Howie Klein of Blue America said about her campaign:

“Jenny and her team have been running a bold progressive campaign to unseat arch-villain Rep. Virginia Foxx, who has turned herself into a virtual rubber stamp for Trump and a terrible representative of North Carolinans. Jenny told us that while out on the campaign trail, she’s “talked to thousands of people who tell me that they are struggling to make ends meet and are afraid they are going to lose their health insurance

Jenny is eager to take on Foxx but she’s got to win the primary against a centrist primary opponent first– that’s the election coming up May 8th. Jenny’s opponent is an ‘Establishment Dem’ who:

-doesn’t believe in raising the minimum wage beyond $10 per hour

-doesn’t support tuition-free public colleges and universities

-stated that our public education system is broken and would use her -knowledge of the business world to “fix it.”

In other words, she is all about doing just enough to look like she is on our side, but not enough to actually help our families and our communities.

Jenny is committed to raising the wage to $15 an hour and tying it to inflation and fighting for healthcare for all.”

Next Stop For The Blue Wave– North Carolina And Indiana, Howie Klein, Blue America

Jenny’s a legitimate progressive with a real shot at knocking out one of the most conservative members of Congress in the General Election. Virginia Foxx (R-Incumbent) is out of touch with her district and the rest of America, she has an abominable Progressive Punch Score of 3.25/100 meaning she voted for progressive issues or against conservative ones only 3.25% of the time. She has -66.75 Progressive Score vs. District Tilt. Needless to say Foxx needs to go!

Author Corey Pein on Silicon Valley, journalism, our brains on Twitter and his book “LIVE WORK WORK WORK DIE A Journey into the Savage Heart of Silicon Valley”

On this episode of the Lush Left Podcast we sit down with friend of the show Corey Pein to talk about Silicon Valley, the state of journalism, our brains on Twitter and his upcoming book "LIVE WORK WORK WORK DIE A Journey into the Savage Heart of Silicon Valley."

No one is talking more incisively or more derisively about Silicon Valley and how it is affecting our culture than Corey. Corey explains Silicon Valley values are not neutral and have real and powerful impacts on the lives of workers, consumers, and the country as a whole. He digs deep into the culture war happening on our screens, in our devices, and in our constant attention.

In addition to our discussion of the his upcoming book we talk about the state of journalism in the digital age. How Twitter is changing the journalism is written and warping our sense of accomplishment and how the best journalists are often those you don't see on Twitter all the time. Corey's down to earth persona isn't an act, he's an authentic person with a commitment to the craft, living a good life and improving the world. It's incredibly clear in his work at the Baffler, on his podcast News from Nowhere and in his upcoming book. It's a pleasure to know him and I think you'll enjoy getting to know him better in this interview.

Please pre-order his book "LIVE WORK WORK WORK DIE

Anoa Changa of The Way With Anoa & Peach Perspective on the Lush Left Podcast

Anoa is one of the smartest thinkers talking about the realities of political organizing in a world where we don’t always have the same experiences, may look different, and may not see eye to eye every day. She’s changing the conversation on the intersection of race and organizing.

She talks to Mary Angela Perna and David Slavick on how Democrats can do better for African Americans and do better for the party in the meantime. She breaks down why we need to stop be allies to each other and start being comrades. More about Anoa: Mom 1st, Lawyer 2nd. Anoa Changa is Director of Political Advocacy and a Managing Editor of Progressive Army, as well as a member of its Editorial Board. She hosts The Way with Anoa, Wednesdays at 9pm ET on YouTube.  Check out her Georgia politics site Peach Perspective. Follow her on Twitter @TheWayWithAnoa.

DuWayne Gregory The Progressive Democratic Candidate Taking On Peter King In NY02

DuWayne Gregory is the Blue America endorsed Democratic candidate that’s bringing a progressive populist message to the voters of Suffolk County. He’s got the message, smarts, and heart to beat one of the GOP’s most virulent politicians Congressman Peter King. In this conversation DuWayne articulates a clear and compelling vision of a better America that is inspiring and empowering. He cuts through the jargon and speaks to the head and the heart. Smart, funny, down to earth, it’s clear that he’s got what it takes to fight for what’s right in Congress. Listen to what DuWayne has to say in this conversation with Mary Angela Perna and David Slavick, we promise you’ll feel a lot more hopeful about the future.

Here’s what BlueAmerica has to say about DuWayne:

“DuWayne Gregory is the progressive Democrat running for the Long Island South Shore seat occupied by Peter King. He gas his eyes on Republicans, not on the demented Democrats making common cause with them. “The Republicans are at it again,” he said today. “This is proof positive that the so called Trump Make America Great Again agenda is all about bringing the country back to perilous times. The time when unscrupulous banks acted carelessly and crashed the economy which lead to turmoil where millions of people lost their jobs and homes. Peter King supported the bailout of Wall Street banks last time while voting against help for the auto industry and there is no doubt he will bail them out again. This attempt brings new meaning to the phrase ‘fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.’ Republicans in Congress have to be sent a message loudly and clearly their agenda is wrong for America and vote them out this November.”
